Online Donations - Kiosk Mode

Kiosk Mode for Online Donations makes it easy to accept in-person donations through a laptop or tablet, and helps protect donor information while making a donation in a public place.

When enabled, kiosk mode:

  • removes logon functionality,
  • prevents the user from using the browser’s “back” and “reload” features,
  • removes the website header and footer, and
  • adds a timer so that if the user has stepped away, their information will not stay on the page indefinitely.

Kiosk Mode is a free add-on for existing customers with Online Donations. To add this feature, please contact us.

Enabling Kiosk Mode

  1. Log in to Church Tools.
  2. Go to Giving.
  3. Select Manage Kiosk Mode.
  4. Select Turn ON Kiosk Mode.
  5. Click on Go To Donation Page.

Kiosk mode is now enabled on this device and browser.

To disable Kiosk Mode, log in to Church Tools, then follow the steps to access the management page and Turn OFF Kiosk Mode.

Kiosk mode is enabled only on the device and browser you enable it on, so it won’t affect donors making Online Donations on other devices.

  • Laptop running Windows 11
  • iPad

Using a Laptop with Windows 11

Windows 11 has a built-in “kiosk mode” which is a separate user account that locks down access to your donation form and prevents unintentional use of your laptop.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Accounts, then select Family & other users.
  3. In the Set up a kiosk section, select Get started.
  4. Enter a name for the Kiosk Mode account (ie, “Donation Kiosk”).
  5. Choose Microsoft Edge as the kiosk app.
  6. Select As a digital sign or interactive display, then Next.
  7. Enter the URL of your Church Tools login page.
  8. Change Restart Microsoft Edge after someone has not used it for to “Never”.
  9. Select Next, then Close.
  10. Sign out then Sign in to the newly added kiosk mode account.
  11. Follow the steps in Enabling Kiosk Mode to start collecting donations.

To exit kiosk mode, press Ctrl + Alt + Delete keys at the same time.

For more information (or for instructions for other versions of Windows), see Microsoft’s documentation for this feature.

Using an iPad

iPad includes a “Guided Access” feature that temporarily locks down your iPad to a single app. When in “Guided Access” mode, your iPad will not sleep, so make sure you keep it charged while in use.

  1. Go to General > Accessibility > Guided Access.
  2. Enable Guided Access by tapping the slider.
  3. Launch Safari, then quickly press
    1. iPad with Home button: the “Home” button 3 times in a row.
    2. iPad with no Home button: the top button 3 times in a row.
  4. Tap Options, then enable Sleep/Wake Button.
  5. Tap Start in the top-right corner when you’re ready to enter the mode.
  6. Enter a passcode (if prompted). This is the passcode that you’ll need to use to exit “Guided Access” mode. You can use the same passcode that you use to unlock your device.
  7. Follow the steps in Enabling Kiosk Mode to start collecting donations.

To exit “Guided Access”:

  • iPad with Home Button: double- or triple-click the “Home” button.
  • iPad with no Home button: double- or triple-click the top button.
